George Murphy
Fine Art
George Murphy’s artistic output ranges from oil and watercolor painting, occasional acrylic painting, drawing, collage, printmaking, and photography, to sculptural work. While focusing on meticulous realism, either in the form of photorealism or trompe l’oeil, Murphy frequently takes other, less formal, paths. In such cases he explores aspects of surrealism, primitivism, as well as the use of the written word.
Oil Painting
Oil painting is at the heart of Murphy’s output as a visual artist and, as with much of his work, it tends to encompass a variety of different styles and approaches.
Watercolor
Though watercolor as a medium has not been embraced as whole-heartedly by Murphy as has oil, he has nonetheless produced a good number of small and exquisitely rendered photoreal watercolor pieces over the years. He has also used watercolor in combination with drawing and print, in various genres, as with oil.
